"It started in the late 1950’s on the Lower East side when my father, Joe Frank, would go to New York buying and visit Morris Rothenberg & Son. There was no UPS or internet. Milton Somberg would allow my father to pick thru the used army boots and pack them himself in such a manner that he could tell if any boots had been changed. Later, on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, I remember going to the warehouse with my father and starting to learn the business. We would also go to a Mets baseball game. Milton was the cordial, mild mannered, always honest leader than has continued to this day.
The move to Long Island followed as Rothco grew which was followed by their first computer system, installed to eliminate Howard’s illegible handwriting as much as it was forward thinking towards the technology. As Rothco grew throughout the years, so has their product offering. The catalogue has grown to the point that I could fill almost every important military and outdoor product offering from the Rothco catalogue. This type of growth usually creates an impersonal company that is all about the “bottom line”. Not at Rothco.
Today, Rothco has evolved into, without question, the most efficient, most in stock, fastest shipping vendor I deal with. Like all businesses, they are not perfect. But problems are resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of all involved.

Times changed, tastes changed, competition changed and people changed.

Since 1981 Rothco has always been our “go to” resource. I have told friends over the years that if I were somehow limited to just one vendor, Rothco would be the choice; hands down! The depth and breadth of their product line, their speed and efficiency in shipping, and their attention to details, are just some of their great attributes that help us to make our business more successful. They are amazing! There is much more to it than that. Rothco is no doubt a great company-but more importantly the people that make up Rothco- are my friends. I had always known that. However this point was really driven home to me in August of 2005 as my hometown was being devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Howard, Hans, John, and others got me on a conference call as my family and I were displaced in northern Mississippi waiting for the storm to pass. Their first concern was our well-being and state of mind-offering to do/send anything that we thought we might need. I’ll never forget that offer. Then, in the next several weeks as New Orleans slowly came back to life, Rothco shipped daily the inventory we needed to serve the first responders that had descended on our city. I’m sure our credit limit was greatly exceeded, but apparently the trust and relationship that we had built with Rothco over the years kicked in and it was never a problem. Staffing problems required us to limit our hours and we did what we could, but as army/navy stores do so often, we actually did tremendous business in those few weeks directly after the storm, and Rothco was there feeding us the merchandise we needed. Rothco went even further for us by becoming our “fulfillment center” for all of our online sales during that period. As far as our online customers were concerned it was “business as usual”, thanks to our friends at Rothco. I know when I log into the website the availability of items is up to date and reliable- none of the others in the industry can say the same. That means I know when I tell a customer I can get an item and have it in 3 days I can 100% live up to that promise. Sometimes, clarification is needed on the products available. They have never failed to get me an answer as soon as possible. I had a situation where I was out of town without computer access. My catalogs were at my store and I needed new products ASAP. They were patient, kind and considerate while my sales Rep looked for the items I needed and shipped them the same day. Rothco's purchasing department keeps adding new products to give their resellers an edge in the market. The staff in shipping have never once sent an order to the wrong address like the competition has done to me 3 times in the past 5 years.
