In Rothco’s first-ever Dealer Spotlight we visit M3 Surplus, located less than 45 minutes outside Detroit in Clinton Township, Michigan. This massive 6600 sq. ft, immaculate military surplus store is owned and run by Patrick and Kathy McCormick.

M3 was founded 6 1/2 years ago after Kathy and Patrick decided to go into business for themselves and they saw a need and opportunity in their community for a surplus store. M3 has been a Rothco dealer since they started their business.
“We love looking at what we have built, the store and how the community embraces us. I still get that feeling of awesome in the mornings when I come in early and look at everything. From my displays to just how large the store has become. We are a 6600 sq. ft store and need to expand again. In an age of Surplus stores closing every day I am very happy at our growth and success.”

The store is a mix of products, between military pride items, duty gear, survival, and surplus. They have one of the nation’s largest veteran populations in their community, so naturally, a lot of their customers are members of the military and veterans. In addition to military members, M3 has a diverse customer base ranging from police and security to survivalist and military youth programs.

When you visit M3 be sure to check out the wall behind the register which is filled with thank you letters. M3 is devoted to giving back to the community and supporting local veterans. They try and support every organization who comes in looking for a donation. 90% of the surplus items in their store are from their local veterans. In addition to buying back gear from Veterans M3 also will assist in burial services for Veterans. M3 Surplus will supply the family with a dress uniform (minus the hat) and ribbons for under a $100.00. It doesn’t matter what branch or the value of the uniform. They have even supplied WWII veterans with Ike Jacket uniforms.
